Leftism + Radical Islam = The Church of the Devil

The claim that Leftism and radical Islam are equated with The Church of the Devil is a strong one. But it is one that is firmly grounded as this essay will show.

Whether one believes the first chapter in the Book of Mormon was written by the prophet Nephi in 600 B.C. or by Joseph Smith in the 1820's, there is a passage that is eerily prescient in predicting the world we now live in.  In the 14th chapter of 1 Nephi, the prophet Nephi sees our day in a vision and is told by an angel that there are two churches only: one church that includes all who follow Jesus, and the devil's church which stands in opposition.  The relevant verses are:

9 And it came to pass that he said unto me: Look, and behold that great and abominable church, which is the mother of abominations, whose founder is the devil.

10 And he said unto me: Behold there are save two churches only; the one is the church of the Lamb of God, and the other is the church of the devil; wherefore, whoso belongeth not to the church of the Lamb of God belongeth to that great church, which is the mother of abominations; and she is the whore of all the earth.

11 And it came to pass that I looked and beheld the whore of all the earth, and she sat upon many waters; and she had dominion over all the earth, among all nations, kindreds, tongues, and people

A cursory look at world geography shows that there are two main groups that "sit upon the many waters" and  "have dominion over all nations" of the world and these are Leftism and Islam, with the heavy influence of radical Islam. There is no other world view that fits this description.

Conservative philosopher Dennis Prager regularly points out that Leftism is the most dynamic religion of the past century.

Prager notes that Leftism dominates the thinking of Europe, Latin America, Asia and, growingly, even the United States. Leftism is the world view of most of the world's intellectual and political elites. Leftism controls the educational systems in the West from preschool through University.

In this verse Nephi writes that the church of the devil uses its resources to attack Christians:

13 And it came to pass that I beheld that the great mother of abominations did gather together multitudes upon the face of all the earth, among all the nations of the Gentiles, to fight against the Lamb of God

Every day we see stories in the news of radical Islams who want to kill Christians and Leftist who want to eliminate all public vestiges of Christianity from society. Pretty much any value that is promoted by Christians is opposed by Leftism: the sanctity of life, traditional marriage, chastity, religious charity, parental rights, freedom from porn and illegal drugs, public prayers, sharing teachings from the Bible, etc.

Nephi writes that God is not pleased and it will result in wars which we are also seeing:

16 And as there began to be wars and rumors of wars among all the nations which belonged to the mother of abominations, the angel spake unto me, saying: Behold, the wrath of God is upon the mother of harlots; and behold, thou seest all these things

Again the reference to Leftism and radical Islam is clear. All of the Leftist countries are aligned to wage war with radical Islam.

Ironically, radical Islam would probably agree with Nephi in referring to Leftism as "the church of the devil" and "the whore of all the earth."

Leftists are less inclined to call Islam the church of the devil because they don't believe there is a devil. But of course that is first thing the devil would have you believe. Leftists would also object to being referred to as a church, but Prager is absolutely correct to refer to Leftism as the religion that it is.

Their priesthood is the faculty of higher education. They worship the earth. They have great faith in global warming, believing climate predictions decades in the future.

And just like radical Islam, the Leftism is intolerant of any beliefs that are contrary to their dogma. Radical Islam seeks a overt theocracy. Leftism seeks a theocracy without using the word, but it still wants power to take away choices from individuals such as forcing them to pay a global warming tax or denying them the right to own guns.

One can see there is one perfectly clear commonality of Leftism and radical Islam that makes them part of the church of the devil. Mormons believe that all humans lived with God in a pre-earth life. There was a heavenly council to decide what our earthly existence would be like. Satan proposed a plan that would force everyone to obey God's commandments so they could return to God's presence. Jesus advocated for God's plan which was to give everyone free will -- let people decide for themselves. Satan takes away people's choices. Jesus gives people the power to choose.

Notice that both Leftism and radical Islam follow the model of imposing their way on everyone else, just as Satan did. Communism was the ultimate Leftist form of control, but even the current popular form of Leftism tries to shut down other viewpoints. Leftism does not want to engage. It prefers to avoid debating the opposition. You can see this exhibited everyday on the campus that train young people in Leftism.

So the sides have been defined. Where do you stand and what do you do?

Final thought: Nephi is told that those who follow the Lamb of Go are few. But being few in number should not result in surrender or defeat. All faithful Christians need to stand for Christian values against both radical Islam and Leftism.  The good news is that we have God on our side.

14 And it came to pass that I, Nephi, beheld the power of the Lamb of God, that it descended upon the saints of the church of the Lamb, and upon the covenant people of the Lord, who were scattered upon all the face of the earth; and they were armed with righteousness and with the power of God in great glory.
