With the death of beloved film star Gene Wilder, it is befitting we acknowledge the reason we saw less of him for the past 20 years. Wilder did not think the excessive bad language that is the staple of too many movies was necessary.
I think most people would agree with him. How many people come out of a movie without excessive swearing and say, "You know, I kind of liked that movie, but it would have been much better with more foul language"? I don't think anyone would think that way.
Wilder was no angel based on some of the movies he made (such as Blazing Saddles), but at least he had the courage to draw the line somewhere.
Thankfully, there is a solution to keep unwelcome language and other objections out of our homes when we want to watch movies. See my recent post on Batman's Butt to find out more.
